Rangers to kick off season with pre-season friendly vs Dutch giants Ajax – but the match isn’t in Amsterdam or at Ibrox

RANGERS have added a fourth match to their pre-season friendly schedule – a clash against Dutch big hitters Ajax.

But the match WON’T be played at the Johan Cruyff arena in Amsterdam.

The Dutch giants have confirmed the fixture – which will take place on Saturday July 13 and have a 3pm UK kick-off.

That’s the day before the Euro 2024 final – but any Gers fans intending to attempt to view the match face a trip to the small town of Wezep.

The game will take place in 500-capacity Mulderssingel sports park, and it remains unclear any provision will be made for visiting fans.

Former Ibrox coach Dave Vos is now part of the staff in Amsterdam under new head coach Francesco Farioli.

The Gers already have a glamour friendly with Manchester Utd at Murrayfield to look forward to.

The Old Trafford side will ‘host’ the Ibrox men at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, Edinburgh, on Saturday July 20.

It’s then down to England for the inaugural Trevor Francis Memorial Game.

Taking place on Wednesday, July 24, the match will take place exactly a year on from the legendary Francis’ passing at the age of 69 in 2023.

Francis began his career with Birmingham and made more than 300 appearances between 1970 and 1979.

Having become Britain‘s first £1million player when he joined Nottingham Forest, Francis spent a year with Rangers between 1987 and 1988.

It’s a busy seven days for Rangers, who then head to Germany after their clash with the Blues.

The Gers will take on Bundesliga side Union Berlin at their Stadion An der Alten Foresterei home on Saturday, July 27.

The news came as it was announced that the Ibrox side are scrambling around to find an alternative home venue after a mishap in their upgrade works at Ibrox.

Work on the Copland Road Stand has been hit by a shipping delay and it has left angry Gers chiefs scrambling for alternatives – with their home potentially out of action for the entire month of August.

That means as many as FIVE games could be moved – sparking immediate fury among fans.

SunSport understands Murrayfield is high on the list of venue options, with SRU sources confirming talks are underway over a temporary switch to the home of Scottish rugby.
