Tamil superstar Rajinikanth has recently been in the spotlight for his unexpected reaction to the Hema Committee report. This report, which highlights serious issues in the Malayalam film industry, including sexual harassment, lack of basic facilities, gender bias, and pay disparities, has created a buzz across the Indian film industry. A lot of celebrities from South have shared their reactions, including Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Tovino Thomas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Reporters approached Rajinikanth at the Chennai airport on Sunday. In a video posted by Polimer News, he was asked his thoughts on the Hema Committee report. The reporters also asked him about his thoughts on the establishment of a similar committee to tackle exploitation in Tamil cinema. To everyone’s surprise, the Jailer star looked confused and requested a repeat of the question. Upon hearing the terms “Hema Committee” and “Malayalam” once more, Rajinikanth smiled and responded, “I don’t know…” I don’t know anything about that. Sorry.”
Speaking of the Hema Committe Report that has shocked the entertainment news world, it exposed shocking sexual exploitation in the Malayalam film industry and led to the resignation of Mohanlal, the former president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), along with the entire executive committee. The report also named several members of the AMMA committee, triggering mass resignations. Parvathy Thiruvothu earlier slammed Mohanlal and other members for resigning when it was time to take accountability. She called their move cowardly and said how the onus now lies on women to fight for their rights and safety in the film industry.
On Saturday, Mohanlal broke his silence on the Hema Committee Report. In his statement, the Mollywood superstar requested that the focus not be solely on AMMA. Investigation is going on. Please don’t destroy the industry. This is a very hardworking industry. Many people are involved in it. But everyone cannot be blamed for this. Those responsible will be punished, investigation is going on.”

On the other hand, Mammootty, another Mollywood superstar, shared his reaction on Facebook today. The Turbo actor posted, “The full version of the Justice Hema Committee report is before the court. Let the police investigate honestly. Let the court decide the punishments. There is no ‘powerhouse’ in cinema. Cinema is not an arena where such things can exist. The practical recommendations of the Hema Committee report must be enacted if there are legal hurdles. Ultimately, cinema must survive.”
