During the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Rahul Gandhi practiced Jiu-Jitsu with children at their campsite. This activity quickly became a community event, involving fellow yatris and local young martial arts students, the Congress video said.
Rahul Gandhi expressed that the goal was to introduce young participants to the “Gentle Art,” which includes a mix of Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, and meditation. Aikido is a Japanese form of self-defence and martial art that uses locks, holds, throws, and the opponent’s own movements.
“During the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, as we journeyed across thousands of kilometers, we had a daily routine of practicing jiu-jitsu every evening at our campsite. What began as a simple way to stay fit quickly evolved into a community activity, bringing together fellow yatris and young martial arts students from the towns where we stayed,” Gandhi said on X along with a video of the sessions.
“Our goal was to introduce these young minds to the beauty of the ‘Gentle Art’ a harmonious blend of meditation, Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, and non-violent conflict resolution techniques,” the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha added.
“We aimed to instill in them the value of transforming violence into gentleness, giving them the tools to build a more compassionate and safer society,” Gandhi said.To mark National Sports Day, Gandhi shared his experiences, hoping to inspire others to pursue the “gentle art.” He also hinted at a future event, the “Bharat Dojo Yatra.””P.S.: Bharat Dojo Yatra is coming soon,” Gandhi added.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra lasted over two months, starting on January 14 from Manipur and ending in Mumbai. This journey was a hybrid endeavor and served as the second phase of Gandhi’s earlier padyatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, conducted from September 2022 to January 2023.
