Queen Camilla Is Feeling Better, But Will Pass on Watching Men in Leather Skirts Swordfight Anyway

Queen Camilla has recovered from the chest infection that led to her cancelling a number of engagements over the past week, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace, but will skip a planned movie outing Wednesday with King Charles III out of an abundance of caution.

Camilla took ill after she and Charles returned from their recent tour of Australia and Samoa, and missed a week’s worth of planned engagements, including the weekend’s Remembrance Day observations. Though she is set to return to London Tuesday for a reception with the Booker Prize finalists, she won’t walk the red carpet at the London premiere of Gladiator II Wednesday as planned.

Palace reps told People that the change of plans was to allow the queen to conserve her energy and continue to recover after her illness, but the move is also savvy in avoiding the optics of being too unwell to attend the solemn Remembrance weekend commemorations, but then appearing at a splashy film premiere days later.

“While this is a source of great disappointment to The Queen, she will mark the occasion privately at home and hopes to return to public duties early next week,” a statement from the palace read when announcing that Camilla would not be present for the Remembrance Day ceremonies.

She won’t have to go far for the Tuesday event with the Booker authors as it is at Clarence House.

Though she won’t accompany Charles to the premiere Wednesday evening, Camilla’s schedule for the day hasn’t been totally cleared. Earlier in the day, she’ll attend a reception at Buckingham Palace celebrating a century of the Film and TV Charity, which assists members of the industry. She and Charles will rub elbows with actors, directors, costume designers, stunt performers, and more at the event, while listening to live performances of various film and TV scores and musical soundtracks. Costumes and props from movies will also be on display.
