Pune Porche Accident: Two liquor serving outlets visited by teen driver sealed

The Maharashtra excise department has taken action against two restaurants in Pune, sealing them for allegedly serving alcohol to a 17-year-old boy involved in a fatal car crash. The incident, which occurred in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, resulted in the death of two software engineers. The excise department has initiated inspections to prevent similar violations and ensure compliance with regulations.

Collector Suhas Diwase’s order to seal Cosie and Blak Marriott, both based in Mundhwa, came a day after the excise department filed chargesheets against the pubs.

“The pubs have been sealed. Once we receive the police reports, both establishments will be served detailed show-cause notices. The closure order is based on prima facie violations,” Diwase said.

Cosie restaurant in Koregaon Park and Hotel Blak Club in Mundhwa were sealed following orders from district collector Suhas Diwase. The establishments were allegedly visited by the underage driver and his friends, who consumed liquor between 9.30 pm and 1 am on the night of the incident.

According to a TOI report, Collector Suhas Diwase issued the closure order for Cosie and Blak Marriott, stating that detailed show-cause notices would be served once police reports are received. The closure is in response to violations, including serving alcohol to minors, not maintaining records, and selling liquor without valid permits.

Inspections have been initiated over the next three days to identify other pubs violating regulations. Excise officials have formed squads to patrol areas with pubs operating late into the night. The excise department has also discovered CCTV footage showing the underage driver consuming alcohol with friends at the now-sealed pubs.

The excise department has launched a special inspection drive to prevent pubs and restaurants from serving alcohol to underage patrons and operating beyond the designated 1.30 am deadline. Violations will result in cases being registered against the establishments, and their licenses may be cancelled.
