Vadra will visit the three assembly segments in Wayanad district on Monday and cover one in Kozhikode and three in Malappuram districts on Tuesday. She will make another trip before the November 13 polls for more intense meetings, according to local Congress leaders.
Vadra, who is contesting as United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate, is seeking election from the seat her brother Rahul Gandhi vacated. She is taking on LDF candidate Sathyan Mokeri (CPI) and BJP candidate Navya Haridas (39) who filed their nomination papers on Thursday.
The LDF and BJP candidates have launched a spirited campaign in probably the toughest electoral contest of their lifetime. The past two LS polls had been a cakewalk for the UDF with Rahul Gandhi taking the plunge.
The Wayanad constituency has about 1.46 million voters and consists of three assembly segments of Sultan Bathery, Kalpetta and Mananthavady in Wayanad district, Nilambur, Wandoor and Ernad in Malappuram district, and Thiruvambady in Kozhikode district. Of these seats, three are held by the Congress, two by the CPI(M) and one each by the IUML and independent.
