Sanjay Leela Bhansali made his web-series debut with Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has changed the dynamics for Indian shows and has been receiving countless love from the fans and the audiences across the globe. Rooted in culture and set against the backdrop of the world of courtesans from Lahore, which was once a part of the undivided India, the web-series featuring an ensemble cast of Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Sehgal, seems to have won over global artist Priyanka Chopra Jonas too.
Priyanka Chopra who previously worked with the filmmaker in Bajirao Mastani, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela among others, expressed her love for the Netflix sereies and shared an interesting story about SLB’s long-standing wish for making the show in a recent post she shared on her Instagram story. Along with the poster of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, the actress shared her review of the show saying, “I remember how much you wanted to make this Congratulations @bhansaliproductions?.
It is well known that Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was among the dream projects of SLB and sources have stated even though it took years to make it, its every frame is a testament to the hard work, research, and honesty of SLB and his entire team. In an earlier interaction, Sanjay Leela Bhansali reflected on the project’s journey, wherein he revealed, “The script for Heeramandi was charming, vast, and epic. The story was too long for a film, and I had the concept 18 years ago, but there were no OTT platforms then. I finally saw an opportunity to do it properly on an OTT platform, where you can develop it and enjoy each character. This story has taken the longest?18 years of nurturing, cherishing, and living it.?
Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Heeramandi also stars Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman, Taha Shah Badussha, Adhyayan Suman, along with an extensive supporting cast. Filled with emotions of love, power, betrayal, patriotism, the show is an eight-part series streaming across 190 countries on Netflix from May 1 onwards.
