Mumbai: Bollywood actress, Priyamani in a recent conversation with News 18 emphasised the subject of body shaming and skin colour, that the actress had undergone. Hailing from a traditional South Indian background, Priyamani’s roots belong to Palakkad. During a recent interaction, the diva had shed light on the industry seeing the young generation desperate to get a zero figure to stay in the entertainment business. Read on to find more details.
During the interaction with the news agency, Priyamani revealed how she felt about the entertainment industry changes with the younger generation accepting the culture of going under the knife. The Article 37-0 co-star added, “If you want to feel and look good, you can do what you want to achieve that. At the end of the day, it’s a personal choice. I’m in an industry where comparisons are bound to happen (sic).”
Priyamani also shared her opinion on how family members talk about body shaming. The diva added, “People will tell me why I can’t look like my contemporaries. This may come from family members, who might not mean it in a negative way to demotivate you. So, they won’t call you fat (sic).” She also recalled the time when the industry never considered a certain body figurine with beauty to get into the industry. Priya said, “Today, our female actors are so fit and they’re so conscious of what they eat and how they look. But at one point, there were very few girls who were so conscious (sic).”
The Maidaan actress added, “They ate whatever they wanted to. The audience, in fact, liked actors who were healthier because those they saw onscreen were relatable. It’s only recently that conversations about being size zero or figure and skin conscious have gained ground (sic).” The actress emphasised that she was never told to go under the knife, Priyamani made it clear that she wasn’t picking on anyone who opted for surgeries or preferred to change their looks.
Priya said, “They go to skin doctors and get themselves beautified, which is okay. If someone wants to make it big in the industry and wants to look flawless, they should do it. But I began my career in 2002. Back then, the South girls didn’t give in to meeting beauty standards. I’ve never been told by anyone to get botox or fillers done. Even if they did, I would probably shut them down or walk out of the film because I personally don’t believe in these things (sic).”
However, Priyamani agrees with dieting where she recalled the days when she decided to cut down on food while shooting for Drona. Priya added, “I don’t know what got into me but one fine day, I just told my mother that I want to start dieting. I didn’t do it for Drona or Raavanan or to look a certain way. It was a personal choice. I just wanted to see how my body reacts if I cut down on certain food items. At that point, I only remember having egg white scrambles with onions, mushrooms, and boiled vegetables for lunch. But I never did crash dieting (sic).”
On the work front, the actor came to the limelight when she appeared in the popular web series The Family Man alongside Manoj Vajpayee, later the actor shared the silver lining with Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan. Recently, the diva was seen in Article 370 along with Yami Gautam and her last appearance in Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan.
