AN elderly inmate has died in prison – just days after he was sentenced.
Arthur James MacKenzie, 73, passed away at HMP Low Moss in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire.
The pensioner died behind bars on Sunday.
MacKenzie had been sent to jail earlier this month after he was prosecuted at Campbeltown Sheriff Court.
A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held following his death.
The Scottish Prison Service confirmed that cops has been informed.
His death has also been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
A statement from the Scottish Prison Service said: “Arthur James MacKenzie, 73, a prisoner at HMP Low Moss has died on 21 January 2024.
“He was convicted at Campbeltown Sheriff Court in 2024. Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
“A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course.”

Elsewhere, a man has been reported just days after cops shot dead an XL Bully, after it savagely mauled two people and injured a police officer.
The large dog, called Zeus, went berserk between Tinto View and Loudon Hill Avenue in Hamilton on Monday.
Cops have confirmed that a 48-year-old man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with the offences relating to the Dangerous Dog Act.
