Previous govts were not interested in country’s development: PM Modi

MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday took on the Congress by saying that those who ruled the country earlier were only interested in filling their own coffers and dynastic politics and were not interested in the country’s development. Modi was in Maharashtra to inaugurate a slew of infrastructure projects in Nashik and Mumbai.

“Those who ruled the country for long were always thinking about filling their own coffers. They were only thinking about how their family members could progress. They didn’t think about the development of the country or about pushing for the country’s infrastructure or the progress of the country,” he said after inaugurating the Mumbai Trans Harbour Sealink (MTHL) that links Navi Mumbai to Mumbai.

Modi lauded the contribution of the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for the MTHL Project. “I am thankful to the Japanese government for their help in completing this project. I am remembering my friend Shinzo Abe…we both wanted this bridge to be completed as soon as possible.” While Modi did not name the Congress, he kept drawing parallels between his government’s ten-year tenure to that of the erstwhile (Congress) governments.
