But one of the city’s suburbs is a jewel in the crown. Clifton Village, with its flurry of Georgian architecture and independent shops, has plenty for tourists and locals to enjoy.

While Clifton Village is just minutes from the centre of the city, there are still plenty of plush and premium houses for locals to purchase and live in.

They said: “Stroll amongst wonderful Georgian architecture and take your pick from any one of the many up-market independent shops and boutiques selling jewellery, art, gifts, furniture, fashion good food and more.

“Far a truly unique shopping experience, a visit to The Clifton Arcade is highly recommended.

This Victorian building is home to a bespoke furniture company, antique collectables, a traditional sweet shop and locally handmade gifts. What’s more, when shopping in Clifton, the Clifton Suspension Bridge is just a short walk away.”

Alongside terrific Georgian architecture, Clifton Village is blessed with a terrific market, which, according to Visit Bristol is the most beautiful shopping quarter in the city.

As well as remaining successful in the modern era, Clifton has a rich history. According to Mashroom, it dates all the way back to 350BC and the Iron Age. Furthermore, they said it became a hotspot for the wealthy thanks to the “warm spring of the River Avon”.

The premium feel and nature of Clifton can be reflected in the property prices which can reach as high as £1.5m according to Rightmove.

The property website said: “Properties in Clifton had an overall average price of £526,332 over the last year.

“The majority of sales in Clifton during the last year were flats, selling for an average price of £399,949. Terraced properties sold for an average of £940,382, with semi-detached properties fetching £1,315,821.”

Despite the high property prices, which could be out of the reach of many, the area also has a youthful feel thanks to its proximity to the University of Bristol.
