Chris Doughty, who unsuccessfully sought the GOP nomination for governor in 2022, is going on a three-year mission to Argentina for his Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Mormons).
Before leaving, Doughty sent a letter to his supporters, taking a shot at his primary opponent, perennial also-ran candidate Geoff Diehl.
“Like you,” Doughty wrote, “I saw that my Republican primary opponent would be defeated in a landslide (which he was) and the Healey administration would quickly embark on their promise of overspending and over taxation (which they have).”
Meanwhile, the MA state GOP is still being sued by a vendor who claims he’s owed more than $250,000 in unpaid bills from Diehl’s latest catastrophic bid for office.
While denying that he’s responsible for any of the disputed bills, Diehl has been trying to pay down other unpaid debts from his most recent crushing defeat.
According to correspondence on file with the Office of Campaign and Political Finance (OCPF), after transferring $15,000 of his own funds into his own meager state campaign account, Diehl has paid $5000 he apparently owed the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield.
Diehl also paid a $2,851.90 “settlement,” as it’s described to OCPF, to iHeart radio, which owns local talk stations that Diehl used to appear on. – Howie Carr
