Police in South Boston have arrested a suspected real-life Grinch stealing packages in the lead-up to Christmas.
Derek Kuzava, 34, of Boston, faces various larceny charges after officers report that they found him on East Eighth Street after 2 a.m. Wednesday in possession of a package that was clearly not his.
The cops got a call reporting a larceny in progress around the intersection of I and East Fourth streets with a description of a group of people stealing packages.
They found the suspect group walking the street and asked them to stop. Officers report that they saw Kuzava “bend down behind a vehicle in an attempt to discard an unknown item.”
“Officers could see in plain view an open package that was not addressed to the suspect. The box contained multiple items of clothing that had tags on them and were wrapped in protective paper,” the BPD wrote in a statement on the arrest. “After further investigation, officers were able to recover various stolen items from the suspect.”
Kuzava was charged with larceny from a building and receiving stolen property.
After he was arrested, police confirmed that he had warrants out for him on another larceny charge, breaking and entering in the nighttime, and possession of a Class A drug.
