Cutting a birthday cake into enough pieces for everyone can often feel like an impossible task, especially when you’re trying to make every slice the same.
It’s a tricky balance of giving everyone a decent-sized portion without running out of cake halfway through.
No matter how you approach it, there’s always that one slice that ends up too big or too small.
Whether you’re cutting for a large crowd or trying to satisfy both kids and adults, it takes patience and precision to get it right and even then, it doesn’t always go as planned!
Luckily for us, a baking expert has taken to TikTok to explain how to make your cake go further.
In a video watched more than 10,000 times, the creative bakers at Lily Vanilli London show how to cut a humble six-inch cake into an incredible 32 slices. That’s enough for every child in a class, and then some.
The bakers made the post in response to the “loads of questions” they receive about how best to portion up cakes for a party.
To make sure there’s a piece of cake for everyone, they said: “Start by cutting the cake into 8 even slices. Next, cut each of these sections twice more to create a diamond shape in the centre.
“Finally, divide the remaining diamond-shaped slices into two even triangles. Now you’re ready to share with 32 friends!”
Sharing their easy-to-follow method, the baker suggests you “save this for your next party.”
Followers seemed to love the idea with one commenting: “This is actually great for kids parties! They rarely eat large portions of cake and this will reduce waste”
Another added: “This is perfect for the ones that want to just have a little piece”
However, some cake lovers were concerned that the pieces were a little on the tiny side, with one saying: “typically when people get a piece of cake they want more than 3 bites!”
