The powerful story of Amar Singh Chamkila seems to have not only won hearts but it also seems to be winning accolades. In fact, the film has been awarded the ‘Breakout Film of the Year’ at the prestigious Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Starring Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role along with Parineeti Chopra as Amar Singh’s wife Amarjot, the film released on Netflix and is directed by renowned filmmaker Imtiaz Ali. The latter also attended the ongoing IFFM in Australia where he was felicitated for the film.

Meanwhile, Parineeti Chopra who is currently in London with her husband Raghav Chadha, reacted to this thrilling piece of news. Overwhelmed by the recognition, Parineeti expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am deeply honored that Chamkila has been recognized as the Breakout Film of the Year at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. This film holds a special place in my heart, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the love and appreciation it’s receiving. Chamkila’s story is one of resilience and passion, and I’m grateful to have been a part of bringing it to life.”
For the unversed, Amar Singh Chamkila traced the journey of the Punjabi rockstar by the same name who was considered to be one of the most loved singers of his time. While many commoners loved his music, his rebellious and realistic approach towards the art also garnered him many enemies. The musician was assassinated at the young age of 27 years after he and his wife Amarjot were gunned down in Punjab along with two other band members of their troupe and the assassination continues to remain unsolved. Exploring this story of this artist until his untimely demise is the film which released on April 12, 2024 on Netflix.
