While many actors have married once and are living happily ever after, others have witnessed several ups and downs and bumpy roads. Similarly, this actor, once known for his flamboyant image in the Bollywood industry, was famous for his groovy moves, shiny ensembles, and making nights memorable. We are talking about none other than Mithun Chakraborty. The actor made a name for himself in the industry in the 80s and 90s. Apart from his professional life, his personal life was also a matter of discussion among fans. Not many people know this, but the actor married twice. His first marriage, however, ended tragically.
In 1979, Mithun tied the knot with actress Helena Luke. However, just four months into the marriage, the couple went their separate ways. Later, Mithun remarried, and it was Yogeeta Bali who became the actor’s bride in 1979. However, after marrying Yogeeta, rumours started circulating, claiming that Helena wanted to reconcile with Mithun. To clear the air, the actress addressed the issue in an interview, clarifying the situation. She said, “I wish I had never married Mithun. No matter how rich he becomes, I will never live with him again.”
She further explained, “Those four months of marriage were nothing short of a nightmare for me. I wish it had never happened. He brainwashed me into believing he was meant for me, and unfortunately, he succeeded in his plan.”
How Did Mithun and Helena Meet?
Mithun and Helena met after the actor had broken up with another actress named Sarika. Both Mithun and Helena clicked and thought that getting married would be the right decision. Quietly tying the knot, both Mithun and Helena began living together. However, soon, several conflicts arose in their relationship, and the situation started to turn sour. As a result, they divorced within four months. Helena revealed in an interview that she was the one who asked for the divorce.
Helena Referred to Her Marriage with Mithun as a ‘Nightmare’
“I was the one who walked out on him and asked for a divorce. He may be a star now, but that does not change my plans. I’ll never go back to him, even if he is the richest guy around. I haven’t even asked for alimony. It was a nightmare, and it’s over. I wish Mithun would stop talking about me. What I hate about Mithun is the way he treats his women as publicity props by discussing them and talking about them. As for me, this is the last time I’m speaking on this man. In a few months, our divorce will come through, and he can do whatever he likes after that,” the actress said.
Opening up about how painful the loneliness in her life became after marriage, the actress shared, “I didn’t gain anything from this marriage. I spent hours waiting for Mithun at home, but I only got to see him for four hours a day. The mental agony was unbearable. I realized that Mithun only loved himself, no one else. I was much younger than him, but it felt like I was the more mature one. He was incredibly immature and suspicious by nature. I tried explaining things to him, but I couldn’t succeed. He was convinced that I was still meeting my ex, Javed Khan.”
Currently, Mithun is married to Yogeeta, and the couple is blessed with four children.
