PETALING JAYA: More than 100 investigation papers have been opened against private higher education institutions for various offences.
Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud (pic) said the ministry had conducted compliance audits on 355 institutions between 2019 and 2024 for the lack of compliance to the Private Higher Educational Institution Act (Act 555).
“A total of 146 investigation papers have been opened by the ministry,” he said during question time in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Nov 11).
Mustapha said a total of 82 compound notices have been isssued to errant institutions.
He said the most common offences were institutions not updating the Chief Registrar on changes in particulars (28 compounds), operating out of premises which are not permitted for education institutions (12 compounds) and academics without valid teaching permits (47 compounds).
All these offences were committed under Act 555.
Mustapha said compliance audits are done on a periodic basis as per the requirements of the law.
“The ministry views any issues involving private education institutions seriously. If the public has any complaints related to private higher education institutions, they can channel their complaints through the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA),” he said.
He was responding to a question by Mordi Bimol (PH-Mas Gading) on fraud involving private higher education institutions.
