If you’re on a mission to boost your health, one humble vegetable could be the secret weapon in your arsenal. TikTok user @naturalmedicinehealth has revealed that this root veg can “clean your fatty liver” and assist with weight loss in just “ten days”.
The mystery vegetable? It’s none other than beetroot. As per WebMD: “Packed with nutrition, beets have antioxidants like betalains that fight cell damage and inflammation, potentially offering protection against cancer and heart disease.
“Health benefits of beets include more stamina during exercise, heart disease and stroke prevention, and lower blood pressure”, making them a worthy addition to any diet.
If you’re battling with stubborn belly fat, experiencing gas, fatigue, and stomach discomfort, you might be dealing with a fatty liver – but fear not, beetroot is here to help. “Beetroot is high in iron which helps purify the blood. The phenolic acid, flavonoids and carotenoids in beetroot help detoxify the liver,” the video explains.
There’s even a simple recipe you can whip up to aid liver detoxification. “First, take a beetroot, peel it, and cut it into pieces,” the video instructs.
You’ll also need five celery stalks, chopped into pieces. “Raw celery is full of enzymes that act as a diuretic, promoting the elimination of toxins from the liver and kidneys,” it adds.
The recipe suggests, “extract the juice of one lemon and place all the ingredients in a blender along with 700ml of water”. The health guru @naturalmedicinehealth claims that if you consume this concoction daily for ten days, it will detoxify your liver, promote fat loss, and leave you feeling rejuvenated.
However, before embarking on this ten-day juice cleanse, especially for those prone to kidney stones, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional. As MedicineNet warns: “Beet juice is high in compounds called oxalates. These naturally occurring compounds in urine can increase the risk of kidney stones if you have a tendency to develop them.”
On the other hand, the Family Information Service highlights the benefits of beetroot, stating: “Beetroot is a good source of iron and folate (naturally occurring folic acid). It also contains nitrates, betaine, magnesium and other antioxidants (notably betacyanin). More recent health claims suggest beetroot can help lower blood pressure, boost exercise performance and prevent dementia.”
