The National Eligibility Test is conducted on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC), allowing students to appear for examinations for admission to PhD programs in Indian universities and colleges. Successful candidates are awarded the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointed as Assistant Professors.
As many as 684,224 candidates appeared in the examination, out of which 4,970 students qualified for the JRF, and 53,694 candidates qualified for Assistant Professors only. The NTA announced 1, 12, 070 candidates have qualified for PhD programmes.
The NTA will issue certificates to the successful candidates shortly.
