NMDC’s iron ore output rose over 5% in December, sales declined nearly 7% 

State-owned NMDC’s iron ore production rose more than 5% in December to 4.71 million tonne (MT) compared to the year earlier period while sales of the key raw material for steel by the company declined nearly 7% to 3.91 MT.

NMDC had reported 4.48 MT output and 4.19 MT sales in December 2023. For the nine months ended December in the current fiscal, iron ore production stood at 30.77 MT (31.78 MT) and sales totalled 31.80 MT (31.94 MT), a filing by the company on Wednesday showed.

Extension of addl charge

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Steel has extended the additional charge of the post of Chairman-cum-Managing Director assigned to Director (Finance) Amitava Mukherjee by one year.

The additional charge is being extended for a further period of one year with effect from November 20, 2024 or till appointment of regular incumbent to the post, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest, the Ministry said in an order on December 30.

Mr.Amitava Mukherjee has been holding additional charge as the CMD since March 2023. The Public Enterprise Selection Board had in November 2024, after interviewing nine candidates, including Mr.Mukherjee, recommended his name for the post.

A 1995 batch Indian Railway Accounts Service officer, Mr. Mukherjee prior to joining NMDC was General Manager (Finance) in Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL). He was appointed Director (Finance) of the mining major for five years from November 20, 2018, which in August 2023 was extended till February, 2028.
