Nine-hour water supply maintenance scheduled for Tuesday

Cape Town suburbs will experience a nine-hour water supply disruption on Tuesday, 1 October, due to planned maintenance.

NINE-HOUR WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION IN CAPE TOWN

The City of Cape Town said zero-pressure tests and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network in the following areas:

Tuesday, 1 October, from 09:00 until 17:00 – Hout Bay Central, Imizamo Yethu, Penzance Estate, Berg En Dal, Scott Estate, Hangberg, Hout Bay Harbour and Helgarda Estate.

Likewise, the maintenance will also be done at Vredekloof, Welgelee, Arauna, Morgenster, St Kilda, Marlborough Park, Brackenfell Industrial and Okavango Park in Brackenfell and Brackenfell South on the same day.

RESERVOIR SHUTDOWN

In addition, maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements will also result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Glen Garry Reservoir shutdown – The metro said its water and sanitation directorate will shut down the Glen Garry Reservoir from Monday, 30 September, to Friday, 18 October for annual cleaning and maintenance. It is an essential step to ensure the continued quality and safety of our water supply. The reservoir level will be lowered gradually over this weekend before shutting it off on Monday morning at 08:00. Alternate water supply will be rerouted to the Glen Garry water supply areas at lower than usual pressure.

Bantry Bay area –  Avenue Marina, De Wet Road and surrounds – The water supply to this area will also be shut off from 9:00 until 18:00 on Tuesday, 1 October 2024.

This will enable the maintenance team to safely do repairs on the 150mm and 300mm diameter water supply pipelines in this area. Some residents may experience no water and others low water pressure during this period.

Die Wingerd, Greenway Rise, Stuart’s Hill, Martinville, Schapenberg, Hageland Estate, Sea View Lake Estate and Cherrywood Gardens in Bizweni (Somerset West) – The water supply to these areas will be shut off from 9:00 until 16:00 on Tuesday, 1 October.

“This will enable the maintenance team to safely install various control valves on the water supply network in these areas. Affected consumers are kindly requested to store enough water in clean sealed containers in advance,” the municipality said.

Koeberg Power Station, 13th to 22nd Avenue Melkbosstrand, Ou Skip Caravan Park and Melkbosstrand Village – The Cape Town water and sanitation directorate will shut off the 600mm diameter water main in Otto Du Plessis Drive from 8:00 until 20:00 on Wednesday, 2 October.

As mentioned-above, this will enable the maintenance team to safely repair a severe leak on the pipeline. The Koeberg Power Station and residents in Thirteenth to Twenty Second Avenue in Melkbosstrand and Ou Skip Caravan Park will experience low water pressure during this period. Residents in Melkbosstrand Village will however experience no water. Water tankers will be made available to provide water where required.

Upper Westlake – The water supply to the area bounded by Steenberg Road, Shrewbury Way, Rugby Close, part of Bell Crescent, Owl Close, Eagle Close, Kestrel Street and Reddam Avenue will be shut off from 9:00 until 18:00 on Wednesday, 2 October. This will enable the maintenance team to safely install a water meter on the 350mm diameter water supply pipeline to this area.

Montchere (Somerset West) – The water supply to this area will be shut off from 9:00 until 16:00 on Thursday, 3 October. This will enable the maintenance team to safely install various control valves on the water supply network in this area.

Century City including Canal Walk and the Business and Residential areas – The water and sanitation directorate will be shutting off the main water supply pipeline to these areas from 10:00 on Thursday, 3 October 2024 until 10:00 on Friday, 4 October. This is done in order to repair a damaged 450mm diameter water main in Sable Road adjacent to the N1. Alternate water supply will be rerouted to these areas, but at a lower pressure.

Parow Central, Fairfield Estate, Churchill Estate, Glenlilly, Parow Golf Course, and Richmond in the Parow area – The water supply to these areas will be shut off from 10:00 until 16:00 on Thursday, 3 and 10 October. This will enable the maintenance team to safely install a water meter and a Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) on the main water supply pipeline to these areas. Affected consumers are kindly requested to store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance.
