Nigella Lawson’s Christmassy Snowball in Heaven cocktail and Brandy Alexander – recipes

If you are hoping to enjoy a simple-to-make cocktail during festivities that has a Christmassy twist, then Snowball in Heaven is the perfect concoction.

Nigella Lawson has recommended her Snowball in Heaven, which can be made stronger or more gentle in alcohol, depending on what you fancy.

“If Christmas isn’t the time for a kitsch cocktail, I don’t know when is,” said Nigella.

A stronger version of Snowball in Heaven involves two parts vodka to one part advocaat.

While a weaker mixture involves one part vodka to two parts advocaat; whichever strength of cocktail you decide to try will be deliciously yummy.

Snowball in Heaven

Serves: one

Ingredients:

  • Two shots vodka
  • One shot advocaat
  • Lemonade to top up
  • A spritz of fresh lemon juice or fresh lime juice (optional)
  • One maraschino cherry

Method

1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

2. Add vodka and advocaat (using one shot of vodka and two of advocaat if you want a gentler cocktail) and shake well before straining into a martini glass or champagne coupe.

3. Top with a splash of lemonade and, if wished, add a spritz of lemon or lime juice and a maraschino cherry.

There’s also the option of leaving out the lemonade completely to result in a custard martini.

“Of course, any way you choose to mix this cocktail it should, ideally, be topped with a maraschino cherry,” advised Nigella.

Brandy Alexander

Nigella is also a fan of Brandy Alexander, which is a great Christmas addition.

Regarded as a dessert cocktail, it’s the perfect treat to have after a feast.
