New Comics This Week (06/19): DC Comics

DC’s new comics this week bring some harsh truths for Batman and Robin. Chip Zdarsky’s Batman #149 reveals that the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh has been playing mind games. Specifically, the alternate-Bat altered and planted the original Dark Knight memories into Damian Wayne, AKA Robin. If that wasn’t enough for the father/son duo to deal with, Damian is also aging rapidly. While Bruce Wayne believes this was all part of Zur’s plan to get Robin ready for his war, there is no proof. Plus, there does not seem to be any way of reversing or stopping it. It is up to the father and son to save Robin’s life and stop this nefarious plan.

Bruce Wayne is pulling double-duty in new comics this week. Mark Waid and Dan Mora’s Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #28 brings Batman together with Superman for a universe-shattering adventure. Together, the duo will work to save the Fifth Dimension and Earth from an army of evil imps. However, these imps can obliterate all the joy and life from an entire reality. How can Superman and Batman possibly hope to defeat this enemy? Thankfully, a bunch of DC guest stars and their fifth-dimension counterparts are joining in on the fun.

Elsewhere in the DC Universe, Swamp Thing is making an appearance in John Constantine Hellblazer: Dead in America #6. The issue from Simon Spurrier and Aaron Campbell marks a turning point in the series. On the borders of Las Vegas, the trouble John has been running from finally catches up to him. However, Dream promises an emissary will arrive to guide John to whatever evil is plaguing the county. But, is their trust in this emissary misplaced, leading to John coming clean to Nat and Noah about his un-deadly secret?
