Najib’s apology means nothing to me, says Loke

SEPANG: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s apology does not mean anything to me, says Anthony Loke.

The DAP secretary-general said this was his personal sentiment when asked whether the party accepted Najib’s recent apology over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

“With or without an apology, a crime is still a crime and he (Najib) has been convicted and proven by the courts to be guilty. That fact remains.

“To me, the apology doesn’t mean anything,” he told reporters after launching the DHL Express RM300mil KL Gateway facility here on Monday (Oct 28).

On Thursday (Oct 24), Najib apologised to all Malaysians over the 1MDB scandal which took place when he was prime minister and finance minister.

In a statement read out by his son Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, Najib said he decided to issue the apology after much reflection during his 26 months in jail.

On Sunday (Oct 27), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he welcomed Najib’s apology in good faith, as any leader should.

However, Anwar acknowledged that there were some parties who did not take it well when he commented “terima baik” (well received).

On the proposed amendments to allow house arrest, Loke said it had nothing to do with Najib.

“The proposal that was formulated is about prison reforms and not about house arrests involving Najib,” he said.
