Nail-biting moment car misses OAP & her dog by INCHES as pair cross the road & viewers all say same thing

THIS is the jaw-dropping moment a car narrowly misses smashing into an OAP and her dog by “only inches”.

The terrifying encounter unfolded on Shipdham Road in Toftwood, Norfolk earlier this month.

Nail-biting dashcam footage showed a metallic green car hurtling towards a busy crossing.

Just as the reckless driver reached the zebra crossing, an elderly woman in a motorised scooter and her pooch were making their way across.

Instead of slowing down, the motorist continued to race past – and even beeped their horn.

The man who captured the near-miss, which left just seconds between a potentially fatal crash, said he was “horrified”.

Mr Bill told the Eastern Daily Press: “I was returning home from a relative’s in Toftwood with my son in the car.

“The crossing was obscured by a car parked on the side of the road and oncoming traffic and the person crossing being on a scooter made it slightly more difficult to see.”

The responsible driver said he spotted the woman crossing and stopped in plenty of time.

“I was horrified as I saw the car speeding from the other direction with what appeared to be no attempt to slow down,” he continued.

“They swerved very late and honked their horn in what came across in an angry manner.”

Mr Bill suspected the driver had been distracted at the time and was “very glad” it did not result in a catastrophic end.

Drivers warned of little known dashcam mistake that invalidates car insurance

He added: “Me and my son were both shocked – I always have my camera rolling so I was glad I could catch this.”

The video was shared on social media and viewers were stunned to watch the chaotic scene.

One penned: “Driver must have been distracted by phone or something – they had plenty of time to spot the mobility scooter and the crossing.”

“Totally oblivious,” said another.

ZEBRA CROSSINGS

THE Highway Code stipulates;

  • “Pedestrians must give traffic plenty of time to see you and to stop before you start to cross.”
  • “Vehicles will need more time when the road is slippery.”
  • “Wait until traffic has stopped from both directions or the road is clear before crossing.”
  • “Remember that traffic does not have to stop until someone has moved onto the crossing.”
  • “Drivers and riders should give way to pedestrians waiting to cross and must give way to pedestrians on a zebra crossing.”
  • “Keep looking both ways, and listening, in case a driver or rider has not seen you and attempts to overtake a vehicle that has stopped.”

It comes as other bizarre dashcam footage has been revealed across the UK.

One driver was stunned when a cyclist threw himself on the ground in front of their car in an apparent crash for cash attempt.

The clip showed the man hurl himself off his bicycle before the vehicle reached him.

When made aware the driver had a dashcam he launched into a rage.

Elsewhere, footage caught the moment a reckless 4X4 driver raced along the pavement outside a school as scores of pupils left for home time.

The video showed a Mitsubishi Shogun mounting the kerb before “bombing it along” the pavement outside Peel Common Junior School in Gosport, Hampshire.

And, watch the dramatic moment two cars smashed into each other as they failed to navigate a confusing roundabout.
