When Munawar was asked how he felt about the incident and what one thing is needed from a male perspective, he replied, “Being a man, I feel very ashamed. And not just about the incident in Kolkata, but we’ve been hearing so many such incidents involving baby girls. I am even ashamed to say that some people don’t even spare animals.”
The 32-year-old also urges men everywhere not to frame the case as a man-versus-woman issue. “The ongoing debate between men and women on the internet—men should just remain silent. Listen to what women are saying with humility. If they express their anger and frustration and say that all men are like this, then accept it quietly because, right now, women are going through a lot.”

Amid the nationwide uproar, Munawar penned a poem titled ‘Beti Hui Hai’ on his Instagram. He wrote, “When there is so much going on in your mind and heart, you want to express it. I prefer doing it by writing and then reciting it. The poem is not just about the Kolkata rape case but also about what women go through throughout their lives. ‘Bachti aayi hai gande mehmaanon ki nazron se bhi’ addresses how even young girls face molestation at home by close ones. Women are subjected to so much, whether at home or in public.”
As a father, Faruqui emphasises his desire to teach his children to respect everyone, regardless of gender. “I have a son and a daughter, and I want them to understand how to respect the other gender. I want to teach my son to respect every woman as he would his mother. And having a daughter, it pains me to even think about what a father or brother goes through when his daughter or sister has to endure something like this.”
He further added, “I just pray to Allah that such incidents never happen to any family. There is significant room for improvement in terms of women’s safety. The presence of police officials is necessary in many places, such as public transport late at night. Patrolling should increase everywhere, at least tenfold. CCTV cameras should be operational everywhere.”
