As many families prepare to travel for the holidays it is the perfect time to pick up last-minute travel hacks.

Busy mum Valerie who is behind the Instagram travel page @littleeyes.bigworld and is a self-described “travel guru” shared a time-saving passport hack that is cheap and effective.

She said: “You spend 10 years of flipping through passports to figure out whose is whose, then you learn this sticker trick!”

In the video, Valerie sorts through a range of passports for herself and her children who are eagerly watching on.

During the frantic search she drops one before the video cuts to how easy it is with her sticker trick.

In the top left-hand corner on the back of each of the passports, she adds a different sticker to indicate which one belongs to who.

“Streamline your airport experience with this trick,” she told viewers.

“Unless you are a solo traveler, this is SO helpful!

“If I have to flip through one more passport to figure out which family member it belongs to I am going to lose my mind!”

Many viewers sympathised with the stress of travelling with children and a larger family while praising the hack.

What do you need to do to ensure your passport is OK for travel?

One wrote: @Story of every single big trip with 5 people in the fam. This is GENIUS.”

“I saw a family use rubber bands in different colours for each family member and it was on the page with the picture so you can easily open it and I think it’s a brilliant idea,” another said.

“Awesome travel hack,” a third added while one mum said she “literally got up straight away and did it with the kids.”

RISKY BUSINESS

But, there are also warnings about making any changes to the appearance of passports.

Many viewers recalled when they did similar things but were blocked at immigration for “invalidating” their passport by defacing it.

“We just had to replace my granddaughter’s new passport,” one viewer said.

“I had to fight with the lady at the BA counter at Gatwick because she wasn’t going to let me on a flight due to a sticker on the back,” another warned.

A third added: “It’s true, immigration can refuse entry for any non-official sticker, so why chance it?”

Some suggested any stickers that can be removed should be okay but there are other similar tricks that parents can use which remove the risk of this happening.

In the comments, travellers suggested different passport covers or covers with stickers on them.

You could also use the rubber band trick, coloured paper clips, or magnetic bookmarks which can all be applied and removed without invalidating the passport.

It is always advisable to check your own country’s regulations regarding passports.
