Disney’s live-action animated adventure ‘Mufasa: The Lion King‘ has soared past the Rs 100 crore gross mark at the Indian box office, becoming the third Hollywood film of 2024 to hit this milestone. The film follows the success of ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire‘ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’.
Directed by Barry Jenkins, ‘Mufasa’ saw good growth at the Indian box office on its second Saturday, earning Rs 9.5 crore, according to early estimates by Sacnilk.com. On Saturday, the film’s Hindi-dubbed version took the lead, earning an impressive Rs 3.4 crore while the original English version came in a close second, earning Rs 3.2 crore. The film’s Tamil version earned an added Rs 2 crore while the Telugu dubbed version earned an estimated Rs 90 lakh.
The film’s total net collection is now estiamted at Rs 90 crore while it has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark with its gross collections. The film reached this landmark with its estimated end-of-day gross standing at Rs 108+ crore, including 3D format charges. The movie has gained significant traction thanks to the Hindi and Telugu voiceovers by superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Mahesh Babu, respectively.
The original English version remains the top contributor, grossing approximately Rs 39 crore, while the Hindi version has earned Rs 37 crore. The Telugu and Tamil versions have collectively added Rs 32 crore to the tally over the nine-day run.
Looking ahead, ‘Mufasa’ is on track to surpass ‘Godzilla x Kong’ which earned an estimated Rs 134 crore gross, securing the position of the second-highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2024 in India. It also has its sights set on dethroning Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ which earned a lifetime collection of Rs 169 crore gross.
