Marks and Spencer shoppers have been issued an urgent warning not to eat two of its chicken products due to salmonella contamination.
The supermarket is recalling its Crispy Southern Fried Chicken Burgers and 2 Chicken Kyivs because salmonella has been found in them.
Salmonella infection is caused by bacteria that live in the gut of many birds and animals, and can therefore be present in some foods.
If you eat food contaminated with salmonella this can lead to an array of nasty symptoms which can include diarrhoea, stomach cramps, fever, nausea and vomiting.
Symptoms usually start within a few days of eating the food, but in some cases you can start to feel unwell after just a few hours. It’s important to drink lots of fluids to avoid dehydration and symptoms should usually pass within a week.
The product recall only applies to these products sold in Marks and Spencer stores in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland (ROI) with the following pack sizes and Use By dates:

In a message to customers, Marks and Spencer said: “Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks & Spencer and we take all issues regarding the production of our foods extremely seriously. Please not only ROI and Northern Ireland stores are affected.
“Marks & Spencer is recalling two of its Ready to Cook products – Crispy Southern Fried Chicken Burgers and 2 Chicken Kyivs due to a very low risk of microbiological contamination in a small number of packs.
“Please do not consume this product. Any customers in possession of this product can return it to their nearest store where a full refund will be given. Only the displayed codes are impacted. No other M&S products are affected.
