‘More like a grand film’: Tamil Nadu Minister slams Actor Vijay’s political debut, calls TVK party ‘BJP’s C team’

Tamil Nadu law minister S Regupathy on Monday accused actor Vijay’s political party, the Tamilga Vatri Kajhgam, of being a BJP proxy.

While speaking to reporters, Regupathy said that Vijay’s political rally held on Sunday was more of a ‘grand film than a real meeting’.

“Actor Vijay’s TVK (Tamilga Vatri Kajhgam) party is not an A team or B team, but it is BJP’s C team. It is clear that the Dravidian model of governance cannot be removed from the minds of the people. Yesterday’s TVK public meeting was more like a grand film than a real meeting,” said Regupathy.

Actor Vijay claimed that his party’s enemies are the forces dividing the country and corrupt entities. Addressing the first public meeting of his political party, he explained that the Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam (TVK) is rooted in secular social justice ideologies, guided by leaders such as E.V. Ramasamy (Periyar) and K. Kamaraj.

Taking a veiled jab at the DMK, Vijay said, “You are calling an anti-people government as Dravida model rule and fooling people.” This remark referred to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s assertions that the Dravida model promotes inclusivity for all sections of Tamil society.

Notably, this was Vijay;s first public meeting since the launch of TVK eight months ago, where he reflected on the political journeys of late actors M.G. Ramachandran and N.T. Rama Rao, who faced skepticism when entering politics but remained beloved figures in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. He criticised those labeling newcomers to politics as divisive.”Some here have been painting anyone entering politics with a particular colour, fooling people.” He stressed that TVK’s core principle is equality for all, asking rhetorically, “Should I need to say who is opposed to this?” Vijay said.

Vijay described corrupt entities as “like a virus and elusive,” adding, “It will enact a drama about ideology… The corrupt hypocrites are among us and are presently ruling us now.” He identified divisive political forces and a “selfish family” profiting from Tamil Nadu in the name of the Dravida model as primary adversaries of TVK.

He articulated his vision for TVK, emphasizing its commitment to “secular social justice ideologies,” democracy, equality, and women’s empowerment. Reflecting on personal losses, Vijay voiced his opposition to the NEET exam, citing its negative impact on aspiring students.

In a confident tone, he expressed hopes for strong public support in the 2026 Assembly elections, welcoming potential allies and promising equitable power-sharing. The event also featured the unveiling of TVK’s principles, centered around the Tirukkural’s idea that “everyone is equal by birth,” and a commitment to combating both state and Central government policies deemed “anti-people.”

As a symbol of his commitment, Vijay was presented with a sword and copies of the Constitution, Bhagavad Gita, Quran, and Bible, underscoring the party’s dedication to inclusivity and respect for diverse beliefs.
