IT was Celtic’s day at Hampden as they dramatically secured League Cup glory against Rangers.
And the club’s TV commentator couldn’t resist a brutal swipe at their city rivals’ expense.
It was a cup final for the ages at the national stadium, with the Old Firm rivals playing out a remarkable 3-3 draw.
After trading blows, there was noting to separate the sides after 120 gruelling minutes.
To penalties it went and Daizen Maeda was the man who slotted home the winning kick to seal Celtic’s 119th trophy success.
Maeda’s spot kick gave Hoops fans inside Hampden the green light to kick-start their jubilant celebrations.
For Rangers, it was a totally different story.
Before Celtic captain Callum McGregor and his teammates went up to collect the trophy, Rangers skipper James Tavernier and the rest of the Gers team had to go and collect their runners-up medals.
By this point, the Rangers end at Hampden had more or less emptied out with just a handful of Light Blues fans left watching on.
The hordes of Celtic fans left inside the national stadium sarcastically cheered as Tavernier led the Gers players over to pick up the unwanted gongs.
They subsequently cheered every time one of the medals was put into a gutted Gers star’s hands.
Celtic TV commentator Gerry McCulloch couldn’t resist sticking the boot in either.
As the pictures showed the Rangers players receiving the medals, McCulloch aimed a dig at the Gers fans – or rather, the lack of them left inside the stadium.
He said: “It’s good to see that the Rangers supporters have waited behind to cheer them.
“They’re all dressed as seats now.”
After securing cup glory, the Celtic fans also trolled their rivals with a banner.
At Thursday’s Europa League clash with Tottenham at Ibrox, a Rangers fans’ banner appeared to be inspired by US President-elect Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan.
A blue, red and white banner read: “Make Rangers Great Again.”
At Hampden, Hoops fans unfurled a display that read: “Making Rangers Greet Again.”
The victory means Celtic currently hold all three domestic trophies.
With a nine-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership – and an 11-point lead over Rangers – Brendan Rodgers will fancy his chances of adding to his collection of honours.
Yesterday’s triumph saw Rodgers win his 10th trophy as Hoops manager.
After the match, he said: “It’s about celebrating this one.
“It’s about celebrating it well and being with your families and enjoying it.
“Then we’re back in on Wednesday, getting ready for Dundee United. And that is it. That is it.
“They can enjoy it, put it to bed, and then it’s our next game that is the most important one.
“And then we see how the season progresses from there.
“It’s such a special win for us today and we’ll then get ready for our next game.’
“We’ve done so, so well since pre-season.

“You always want to put a marker down if you can win that first trophy.
“It can give you that huge lift and it’s really a reward for how the players have been up until this point.”
