Mita Vashisht reveals Aamir Khan didn’t like hair-ruffling scene in Ghulam: ‘Actors from art films are looked down upon by mainstream stars’ | Hindi Movie News

Mita Vashisht, who is known for her diverse roles, recently shared an interesting anecdote about Aamir Khan while they were shooting for Ghulam. During her interview with The Lallantop. she recalled an improvisation that didn’t sit well with Aamir at first, although director Vikram Bhatt appreciated her gesture.
“In one scene, I reached out and ruffled his hair,” Mita recounted.She noted that the first time she did this, he didn’t like it. She reflected on how commercial film actors used to consider those involved in art cinema as belonging to a different category, and to some extent, this perception still exists. Mita suggested that if she had been a commercial movie star and had touched Aamir’s hair, he might not have felt bad. She observed that actors from an art film background are sometimes looked down upon by mainstream movie stars, who may view them as talented but still consider themselves the real stars.
Mita also touched on how Bollywood’s caste and class dynamics contribute to such attitudes. She noted that even on OTT platforms, less experienced actors might be favored over her, despite her 37 years in the industry.
Reflecting further, Mita said, “I felt Aamir’s mindset was like, ‘How did she touch me?’ But Mahesh Bhatt took my side, calling the gesture ‘beautiful.'”

She shared more behind-the-scenes details, revealing that the film had been delayed for a year and a half due to Aamir Khan’s low popularity at the time. When the film was revived, Pooja Bhatt was replaced by Rani Mukerji, and Mahesh Bhatt had left the project, with Vikram Bhatt stepping in as the new director. This change necessitated the reshooting of a scene.
Vikram Bhatt mentioned that they were going to reshoot her and Aamir’s love scene where she ruffled his hair, calling it a cute scene. During the reshoot, Mita did not ruffle Aamir’s hair as she had before. After the scene, Aamir remarked that she hadn’t done what she did last time. Mita explained that she had not done it because he hadn’t liked it previously. Aamir then requested her to do it, to which she agreed.

She added, “He was right in his own way as he has his own tradition. It is not his fault as he did not have the same experience earlier.”
