A 17-year-old boy who had been missing for days was reportedly found dead in a North Shore pond Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.
A body tentatively identified as Lynn teenager Brian Lopez was found in Walden Pond near the Saugus/Lynnfield line, the Essex DA and Lynn police chief told reporters.
“Sadly, the outcome was not what we wanted when he was discovered in Walden Pond late this afternoon,” Lynn Police Chief Christopher Reddy said.
“Unfortunately, the family is now dealing with a tragedy,” said Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker.
Police had been searching for the 17-year-old boy after he was reported missing Friday evening. His family and friends had told police that Lopez liked to spend time in Lynn Woods.
His body was found there after people going fishing on Tuesday saw him in the water and notified Saugus Police.
The body was tentatively identified as Lopez by his clothing and some personal accessories.
Officials do not suspect foul play in his death.
“There’s no threat to the public,” Tucker said. “We don’t believe anybody else was involved.”
Lynn Police, Lynn Fire, and Massachusetts State Police conducted extensive searches of Lynn Woods. These agencies utilized the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, drones, K-9 search dogs, mountain bicycles, ATVs and foot searches.
