The birth of triplets is not an everyday occurrence although children are born every day in South Africa.
MIDWIVES CELEBRATED BY LIMPOPO MEC
As such, the Limpopo Health MEC Dr. Phophi Ramathuba extended her heartfelt congratulations to a dedicated team of midwives at Buite Clinic in the Capricorn District, led by Sister Kholofelo Salome Dubalane after assisting in the delivery of triplets.
Their commendable efforts were showcased when they assisted a 26-year-old mother, initially seeking Antenatal Care (ANC), who unexpectedly went into labour and successfully delivered triplets through Normal Vaginal Delivery (NVD), according to the department.
TRIPLETS BORN HEALTHY
The newborns, two girls and a boy, weighed 1557g, 1380g, and 1530g respectively, with both the mother and the infants reported to be in robust health.
“We commend our midwives for their sterling professional performance in making sure that they assist the mother to deliver the triplets. We equally, as we welcome the triplets, congratulate the mother,” expressed MEC Ramathuba.
HOSPITAL INCIDENT RUBBISHED BY DEPARTMENT
Meanwhile, the Limpopo Department of Health has dispelled as untrue the story carried by an online publication alleging that a pregnant woman gave birth on her own at Nkhensani Hospital after the nurses refused to assist her.
“After seeing the story, the department located the alleged victim since there was no prior complaint laid at the hospital. Upon interviewing her, the alleged victim denied ever having the kind of experience at Nkhensani Hospital as alleged by the publication,” MEC’s spokesperson Thilivhali Muavha said.

“She further indicated that she was surprised to hear the news because she neither relayed such information to the publication nor anyone.
The department will be taking the matter up with the publication because, over time, a trend has been observed where unverified facts are published to the detriment of the department,” Muavha stated.
