Michigan State’s Jeremy Fears released from hospital after shooting

Michigan State’s Jeremy Fears Jr. was released from the hospital on Sunday after suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in the leg at home in Illinois the day before, his father announced on social media.

“Jr is doing really good. Discharged and headed home. #blessed,” Fears’ father, Jeremy Fears posted on X.

The update on the freshman basketball player also included three videos of Fears Jr. walking, sitting down, and navigating stairs with his crutches in the hospital.

Fears suffered a gunshot wound in the leg while at home for the holiday break and then underwent surgery successfully, the university announced.

According to ESPN, a statement from local police — that did not identify Fears by name — said an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were at a Joliet, Illinois, home with friends when a male gunman entered the residence and began to shoot.

Per the report, an investigation is active but a suspect has not been identified.

The Athletic reported authorities are still working to identify a motive in the shooting.

On Saturday, Fears posted a picture of himself on his Instagram story with the caption: “Minor setback we gone be good appreciate yall.”
