Millions of aspirants prepare for years to take the UPSC CSE test, with majority of successful aspirants taking several attempts to ultimately clear the exam.

The aspirants who attempt the UPSC recruitment test come from various professional backgrounds, often choosing to leave behind successful careers in other fields to achieve their dream of joining civil services and serving the nation. One such shining example is IPS Navjot Simi, a doctor by profession, who left a promising career in medicine to become a civil servant.

Who is IPS Navjot Simi?

Born in Gurdaspur, Punjab on December 21, 1987, Navjot Simi completed schooling in her home town and later joined the Baba Jaswant Singh Dental Hospital and Research Institute in Ludhiana where she earned a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree, and became a certified doctor.

However, Navjot wanted to achieve something bigger, and soon engrossed herself in preparing for the UPSC CSE, but unlike the majority of aspirant, the young woman did not take any coaching classes, instead relying on online tutorials and rigorous self-study.

Ultimately, Navjot’s hard work and dedication paid off as she aced the UPSC CSE in her first attempt in 2018, achieving an All-India Rank (AIR) of 735, and becoming an IPS officer of the 2018 batch.

Currently, IPS Navjot Simi is posted as the Commandant of Bihar Military Police (BMP), in Begusarai, Bihar. Her first posting was as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Bihar capital, Patna, as she was granted the Bihar cadre after clearing the UPSC examination.
