New Delhi: The UPSC interview, also known as the Personality Test, is often regarded as one of the most challenging stages of the Civil Services Examination. During this personality test round, the candidate will be asked questions on matters of general interest. The object of the Interview/Personality Test is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service by a Board of competent and unbiased observers. The Interview/Personality Test is intended to judge the mental calibre of a candidate.

With her hard work and perseverance, Zainab Sayeed from Kolkata scored the highest marks in the UPSC Civil Services Examination interview round over the past eight years. Yes, you heard it right. The Kolkata-based girl Zainab Syed achieved the highest overall interview score in the eight-year history of the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

A Kolkata resident and a Jamia Millia Islamia graduate, Zainab ranked 107th overall in the 2014 UPSC Civil Services Examination. She obtained 220 out of 275 marks in her personality test, contributing to a total of 731 points in the written test.

Since 2014, no candidate has matched Zainab’s remarkable achievement in the interview phase. In the 2021 UPSC Civil Services Exam, Ashutosh Kumar and Kiran PB both scored 206 in the interview. Additionally, Apala Mishra, who secured the ninth position in the 2020 UPSC Civil Services Exam, received a score of 215 during her interview.

She hails from Chitpur, Kolkata. She cracked the UPSC examination in her third attempt. Notably, she did not pass the preliminary exams in her first two attempts. During the interview, she mentioned that one of the questions she was asked was about her preference between Kolkata and Delhi.
