Tanu Shree, born on April 24, 1987, began her early education in Motihari, Bihar. She completed her Class 12th board exams at DAV Public School, Bokaro. Following this, she pursued and earned a bachelor’s degree in history (honors) from Miranda House College, Delhi University. After graduation, she devoted herself to preparing for competitive examinations.
IPS Tanu Shree, the daughter of a retired CRPF DIG, was inspired by her elder sister, Manushree, a Commandant in the CRPF, to pursue a career in a uniformed service.
According to the media reports, Tanu Shree, in 2014, started her career in the CRPF as an Assistant commandant. The following year, in 2015, she got married. Despite balancing her professional and marital responsibilities, she remained determined to become an IPS officer. Through unwavering dedication and hard work, she cleared the UPSC exam in 2016 and fulfilled her dream by becoming an IPS officer in 2017. According to the media reports, she succeeded in the Income Tax Department exam, but she chose not to join the department.
Speaking of her UPSC marks, Tanushree secured 652 in the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2016. She scored 811 marks in the written examination and 171 marks in the personality test. Overall, she scored 982 marks. Tanu Shree has served as the SSP in the highly sensitive area of Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir. Currently, she holds the position of SP in the SIA Kashmir.
