IIT Success Story: Most aspirants are satisfied after cracking the IIT-JEE entrance test and getting into an IIT or clearing the UPSC once and getting the IPS cadre, then there are those who relentlessly pursue their goal and do not stop until they achieve their dreams. One such shining example is our today’s success story of IAS Garima Agrawal, who cracked IIT-JEE, cleared UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) to become an IPS officer, and then cracked the CSE test again with a higher rank to reach her ultimate goal of becoming an IAS officer.

Who is IAS Garima Agrawal?

Born on on 28 December,  1991 to an upper-middle class family in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, Garima Agrawal, cracked the IIT-JEE, and UPSC-CSE (twice), two of the toughest examinations in the country, to become an IPS officer and then ultimately IAS officer, all before the age of 30.

Since early childhood, Garima always excelled in studies, clearing Class 10th and Class 12 with 89 percent and 92 percent marks, respectively. After finishing her schooling, Garima cracked the highly competitive IIT-JEE entrance test and was admitted to IIT Hyderabad where she completed her B.Tech degree.

Later, she worked as an intern at a software firm in Germany before returning to India to prepare for the UPSC exams and realise her ultimate dream of becoming an IAS officer.

Owing to her academic prowess and sheer dedication, Garima Agrawal cracked the UPSC- CSE in her very first attempt, securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 240 in the civil services exam. Garima was given the Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre, according to her rank, and most people would have been over the moon over their success.

However, Garima was unfazed by the success and remained steadfast towards achieving her ultimate goal of becoming an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.

From IIT to IAS

After joining the IPS cadre, Garima Agrawal once again started her preparations to appear in the UPSC exams and better her rank to get an IAS posting.  In 2018, Garima, again cracked the UPSC test, but this time she achieved an AIR of 40, 200 ranks better than what she had managed in her first attempt.

Powered by her steely resolve and focused approach, Garima Agrawal finally realised her lifelong dream of becoming an IAS officer, all before turning 30.

Currently, IAS Garima Agrawal is posted as the Additional Collector (Local bodies) in Siddipet district of Telangana.
