Meet woman, mother of two children, who quit high-paying job in Saudi Arabia, cracked UPSC exam to become IPS with AIR… she is…

Dr. Bushara Bano, a resident of Sork Qaswa in Kannauj district, secured the All India Rank (AIR) 277 in the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2018. According to her LinkedIn profile, Dr. Bushara Bano completed her MBA in HR/Finance in 2009 from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University. She earned her PhD in Human Resource Management from Aligarh Muslim University in 2014.

Bushara is a mother of two children, both delivered via caesarean sections. In addition, she underwent two more major surgeries. Despite these challenges, her determination to continue her education and pursue competitive exams for various Indian services remained unwavering.

She began her formal education at just four years old, already placed in Class 2. Throughout her academic career, she consistently excelled and was known for her top rankings. After completing a B.Sc. in Mathematics, she pursued an MBA, finishing it before reaching the age of 20.

In an interview with news agency IANS (2022), Dr. Bushra Bano shared, “I was a gifted child since childhood. At least this is what my parents feel proud of and all my acquaintances admit. I started my primary education at the age of four in Class 2. All through my academic life, I have been a topper. After completing my B. Sc in Mathematics (usually rare for girls in India), I decided to go for an MBA and I completed that before I turned 20.”

“Just after that I joined PhD in Management at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). The very next year, I qualified for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) that gave me confidence to make my education self-reliant and a passion to earn on my own. I finished my PhD in a short time of two years and few months,” she added, IANS reported.

Dr. Bushara Bano shared that while still pursuing her research at AMU, she began teaching at Hindustan and Anand Institute in Agra. After getting married to Asmer Hussain, an assistant professor at Jazan University in Saudi Arabia, she too was offered a position as an assistant professor at the same institution. This opportunity allowed them both to teach together at the university. However, she admitted that life in Saudi Arabia did not suit her heart.

After spending four years abroad, she returned to India and enrolled in a post-doctoral program at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), while also starting her preparations for various competitive exams. She mentioned that her first attempt at the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) was unsuccessful. However, she was able to secure a position as an assistant manager at a renowned Coal India company, with her posting in Sonbhadra. The following year, she successfully cleared the prelims of both the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (PCS) and UPSC.

She was quoted as saying by IANS, “In June 2018, I cleared the Mains of both the exams. I was pregnant with my second child then and when interviews were conducted, I was in the last stage of my pregnancy. The UPSC first declared its list. I had secured 277th rank and was allotted the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS). Later, when the PCS result was announced, my rank was 6th and that meant I was eligible to become Deputy Collector or Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM). Thus, I joined as SDM of Firozabad Sadar in 2020.”

“Indian Police Service Batch 2021 Earlier worked as Deputy Collector, Manager Personnel and Assistant Professor Specialities: Human Resource Management, Stress Management, Personality Traits, Policing, Occupational Stress, Academic Stress, Organizational Commitment, Job Satisfaction,” reads her LinkedIn bio. Bushara Bano secured 817 marks in the written examination and 176 marks in the personality test. In total, she achieved 993 marks in the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2018.
