Bhiwadi SP Jyeshtha Maitrei has recently been in the limelight after it came to the fore that her mobile phone’s location was being tracked by some officers of her own department, leading to the suspension of seven police officers who have been accused of spying on the young IPS officer. Since the controversy surfaced, so has the intrigue about IPS Jyeshtha Maitrei and her remarkable journey from a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the the Madhya Pradesh Police to cracking UPSC and becoming an IPS officer.
Here what we know about IPS Jyeshtha Maitrei:
Born and raised in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, Jyeshtha Maitrei completed her education in her hometown and later earned a B.Tech degree from JP institute. During her final year of B.Tech, Jyeshtha took the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) and cleared it in her first attempt.
After cracking MPPSC, Maitrei was posted as a DSP in Morena district, however, she aspired to clear the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) and started preparing for the toughest exam in the country during her training and posting. Owing to her dedication and valuable guidance from then Morena SP Aditya Pratap Singh, Jyeshtha Maitrei cleared the UPSC CSE prelims in her fist attempt in 2018 with just six months of preparation.
Later, she also aced the Mains and interview parts of the exam and realised her goal of becoming an IPS officer.
SP Jyeshtha Maitreyi controversy
Earlier this week, seven officers of the Rajasthan Police, including a sub-inspector of the cyber-cell unit, were suspended, after it surfaced they were secretly tracking Bhiwadi Superintendent of Police (SP) Jyeshtha Maitreyi’s location by monitoring her mobile phone. Reports citing sources, said the IPS officer’s cell phone had been under surveillance for week and the incident came to her notice on October 6.
The SP filed a complaint at the police headquarters after she discovered that her subordinate officer, who were part of her own team, were involved in the incident. However, it is not yet known whether the officers acted on their own or were asked to so by some higher official.
The incident prompted a departmental inquiry following which seven officers — Cyber Cell Sub-Inspector Shravan Joshi, Head Constable Avnish Kumar and constables Rahul, Satish, Deepak, Bhim, and Rohitash, were suspended by SP Jyeshtha Maitreyi, pending further investigation.
