Anshuman Raj cracked UPSC exam without any coaching. He fought an unfavourable fate with hard work to finally emerge victorious as an IAS officer.
Success Story: Millions of aspirants appear for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination, but very few succeed in cracking all three phases. Those who clear one of the toughest exams in India with an impressive All India Rank become role models for other students. Most aspirants, who aspire to join the civil service invest large sums of time and money in rigorous preparation to crack the UPSC exam. However, there are also some students who, despite not having proper lighting to study, still manage to crack the exam. Anshuman Raj is one such aspirant who defied all odds and fulfilled his dream of becoming an IAS officer. Let’s know his story.
Anshuman Raj hails from a small village in Bihar’s Buxar district. He was raised amid profound financial constraints. Anshuman’s family struggled even for basic amenities. He studied under the faint glow of a kerosene lamp until the completion of his tenth grade. After completing his matriculation, he was admitted to Jawaharlal Navodaya Vidyalaya, where he pursued his 12th grade and subsequent graduation. During his studies at JNV, Anshuman first felt drawn to the allure of the UPSC.
After completing his studies, Anshuman decided to stay in his village for the UPSC preparation and relied on self-study.
He cracked the exam in the first attempt and got selected for the position of Indian Revenue Service (IRS). However, he was not satisfied and remained steadfast of becoming an IAS officer. He again attempted the UPSC exam the following year.
Anshuman Raj’s hard work paid off when he secured an All-India Rank of 107 in the 2019 UPSC Civil Services Examination.
Anushman believed that studying could be done from anywhere and never enrolled for coaching classes. He prepared in his village during his first 3 attempts.
His journey was not a smooth ride. He stumbled not once but twice, only to find victory after the fourth attempt. Every failure was a lesson, offering him valuable wisdom that he utilized to enhance his groundwork for success.
