Hailing from Cuddalore, a coastal district in Tamil Nadu, IAS officer Ishwarya Ramanathan cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination, 2019. She secured an All India Rank(AIR) 47. During her childhood, Ishwarya experienced several natural calamities, including floods, cyclones, and heavy rainfall. The 2004 tsunami had a particularly significant impact on her life.

During this challenging time, she was deeply inspired by the efforts of collector Gagandeep Singh Bedi, which left a lasting mark on her aspirations. Moreover, her family’s financial circumstances also inspired her to strive for greater accomplishments.

Speaking of her personal life, Ishwarya’s father, R. Ramanathan, works as a cashew farmer. Her mother, who married young and later obtained a government position, encouraged Ishwarya in her ambition to become a collector.

It all started when Ishwarya completed her engineering degree from Anna University in Chennai in 2017. While in college, she began preparing for the UPSC exam with coaching assistance. In her first attempt, she secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 630 and was appointed to the Railway Accounts Service. However, her aspiration to become an IAS officer motivated her to attempt the exam again.
In 2019, Ishwarya appeared for the second time and cleared the UPSC examination. She secured the All India Rank(AIR) 47 and became an IAS Officer. During her batch, Pradeep Singh topped the examination by securing an All India Rank(AIR) of 1.

The real dream, though starts from the PDF and travels through the lives of millions of Indians, where my work should bring a better future for them, For my dream was always to help others achieve their dream,” reads her Instagram post.

She is currently serving as the Additional Collector Development in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. At just 24 years old, Ishwarya became one of India’s youngest IAS officers In addition to her professional duties, she is active on social media platforms like Instagram.
