This actress, who last received criticism for her performance in a popular web show, is connected to one of India’s wealthiest families.
Sharmin Segal’s journey into Bollywood is one of the gradual growth. Niece of renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, she initially worked as an assistant director under her uncle’s guidance. Sharmin was born in 1995 to Deepak Segal, a film executive, and Bela Segal, a renowned film editor. Her father currently serves as the content head at Applause Entertainment, a prominent production company. Bela, Sharmin’s mother, has edited several acclaimed Bhansali films, including Khamoshi, Devdas and Black, and also directed Shirin Farhad Ki To Nikal Padi in 2012. On her father’s side, her grandfather Mohan Segal, was a successful film director who directed films such as New Delhi, Sawan Bhadon, Raja Jani, and Ek Hi Raasta.
Sharmin started her Bollywood career at 18 by assisting her uncle Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the film Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela. She also worked as an assistant director in three other films, Mary Kom, Bajirao Mastani, and Gangubai Kathiawadi. Sharmin made her acting debut in the 2019 movie Malaal and last appeared in Bhansali’s web show Heeramandi. Sharmin who played one of the six leads, was prone to criticism for her performance in the show. So, much so that that at one point she disabled comments on her Instagram posts.
In November 2023, Sharmin tied the knot with businessman Aman Mehta in a grand ceremony. Aman is the son of business tycoon Samir Mehta, a billionaire.
Aman is currently the Executive Director at Torrent Pharmaceuticals, one of the core subsidiaries of the Torrent Group, a conglomerate founded by his grandfather, U. N. Mehta, in 1959. The company operates in over 40 countries with more than 2,000 product registrations worldwide.
As per Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Aman’s father Samir Mehta’s net worth is a staggering $6.44 billion (Rs 53,800 crore). The company overall generates revenue of $4.6 billion (Rs 35,000 crore) as per Forbes.
