This actor’s career has seen many ups and downs, yet he remained one of the top stars of the 1990s. We’re talking about none other Sanjay Dutt. Born into illustrious Dutt family, with legendary actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt as his parents. He has two sisters, Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt. He is the maternal grandson of music composer Jaddanbai and nephew of actor Anwar Hussain.

Dutt made his Bollywood debut with the moderately successful Rocky in 1981. In 1986, the film Naam was a turning point in his career. Later, he appeared in successful films such as Imaandaar, Inaam Dus Hazaar, Jeete Hain Shaan Se, Mardon Wali Baat , Ilaaka , Hum Bhi Insaan Hain , Kanoon Apna Apna and Taaqatwar. However, there was a period in Dutt’s life when he delivered 13 flops back-to-back. But his career got a new direction in 1999, when he did the film ‘Khalnayak’ starring Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff. This film turned out to be the second highest grossing film of that year. As the decade went on, he continued to play lead roles in critical and commercial successes such as Jodi No.1 , Pitaah, Kaante, Laage Raho Munna Bhai and more.

Well, there was a period in Sanjay Dutt’s life when the whole industry banned him. In 1993, the actor was arrested under the provisions of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) as he allegedly possessed banned AK-56 assault rifles. The case dragged on and even spent time in prison. Later, in 2007, Dutt was cleared out of all the terror-related charges. However, he was sentenced to six years imprisonment for the illegal possession of weapons. In 2020, as he was on his comeback, the actor was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He underwent treatment in Mumbai.

During that time, he signed his first Kannada film KGF 2. In 2002, the film released in theatres and broke all the records, earnings Rs 1200 worldwide. The actor also did a cameo in 2023 and another negative role in Tamil film Leo. These films earned Rs 3000 crore, making Dutt’s comeback a grand one.

Talking about his personal life, Sanjay Dutt married model Richa Sharma in the year 1987. Shortly after he wedding, Richa diagnosed with cancer and unfortunately at 32 said goodbye to the world forever. Two years after Richa Sharma passed away, Sanjay Dutt married air-hostess-turned-model Rhea Pillai in 1998. Sanjay Dutt’s relationship with Rhea Pillai made a lot of headlines. While she was married to Dutt, Rhea was dating Leander Paes. She officially divorced the actor in 2008.

After facing betrayal, Manyata entered Sanjay Dutt’s life. After divorcing his second wife, the actor married Manyata, who is 19 years younger than her. Two years later, they welcomed twins- a son and a daughter.
