Sayaji started participating in Marathi plays in 1978. However, he worked very hard to participate in these plays. Actually, Sayaji grew up in a small village in Maharashtra and his father was a farmer. After a while, Sayaji left the village and started living in Satara city. There, he studied Marathi. Along with studies he also worked as a watchman from which he was paid Rs 165 per month. During this time he met Sunil Kulkarni, who was a theater artist.
After Sunil Kulkarni approached Sayaji, he did multiple Marathi plays but he came into the limelight after his play ‘Jhulwa’ was released in 1987. Sayaji’s acting in this play attracted many people. After this, his fan following in the field of theatre began to grow drastically. After Marathi plays he tarvelled to Mumbai in search of more opportunities and did many theatre workshops there. Along with all this, he also completed his acting studies.
While doing theatre, he got his first Marathi film ‘Aboli’ and his role in this film was highly appreciated he also got the Best Actor Award for it. After making a mark in the Marathi industry, he stepped into Hindi films. In his first Hindi film ‘Shool’, he played the character of Bacchu Yadav, which was loved by the audience.
