Mohamed Salah spoke about his contract situation, calling Liverpool’s 2-0 win over City probably his last game against the Mancunian side as things stand. Slot went on to jest that Salah probably had an in on the information pertaining to City’s charges.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot took a dig at Manchester City over the champion’s issues with the 115 alleged breaches of financial fair play, which could result in the relegation of the Mancunian side if proven.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah spoke about his contract situation, with his current deal with the club coming to a close at the end of the season, and no offer yet on the table for the Egyptian star following the Merseyside team’s 2-0 win over City on Sunday.
“Probably until now this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool so I was just going to enjoy it,” Salah said after the match at Anfield.
Slot joked that Salah probably had an in on the information pertaining to City’s charges. However, he went on to reiterate that it was nothing more than a wisecrack.
“Maybe Mo knows more about the 115 charges, so he expects them not to be in the Premier League next season,” Slot jested.
“I do expect them in the Premier League. No, the boring answer is always the same. This is not the place, for me, to talk about Mo’s contract,” he added.
“Maybe I’ve said already too much, that would probably get the headlines. But it was a joke. I repeat, a joke!”
Liverpool stand atop the Premier League and UEFA Champions League tables, and Slot asserted that the team values their standing as they have worked hard for the same.
“If we would have done this by just playing on 50 per cent and it’s so easy for us, then they might feel, ‘Ah, we’re just too good for this league’,” Slot said.
“But that’s definitely not what we feel against every team, no matter if it’s City or Liverpool or it was Wolves or Nottingham Forest,” he continued.
“We had to work really, really, really hard to get the results, and I think that keeps them with both feet on the ground,” the Dutchman added.
Slot also went on to hail the club’s culture as the Reds compete for all trophies on offer in the Dutchman’s first season at the helm.
“This club, this team, these players are used to the fact that they are top of the league or they are competing for every trophy, so then it helps that they have experienced this,” he concluded.
