Well that was fast.
It took only a few days since President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out for the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee to unanimously endorse Kamala Harris for president.
The state Dem committee on Wednesday evening met virtually and voted unanimously to back Harris as the 2024 Democratic nominee against former President Donald Trump.
This came after a unanimous vote of endorsement of the Massachusetts delegates to the Democratic convention.
“The message is clear: there is resounding support for Vice President Harris from Democrats here in Massachusetts and around the country,” Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Steve Kerrigan said in a statement.
“Our Party is united, energized, and ready to defeat Donald Trump and J.D. Vance this November,” he added.
Harris has been endorsed this week by several elected officials in the Bay State, including Gov. Maura Healey, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, and Members of Congress.
State Committee Member Sharon Stout made the motion to endorse Harris.
“Let us unite behind Vice President Harris,” said Stout, of Newton. “Let us give her our full endorsement and work tirelessly to ensure her victory. Together, we can make history. Together, we can build a stronger, fairer, more peaceful America for all.”
Massachusetts will send 116 delegates to the Democratic convention in Chicago next month.
Harris has already secured the support of enough Democratic delegates to become the nominee, according to an Associated Press survey, as top Democrats have rallied to her in the aftermath of Biden’s decision to drop his bid for reelection.
