Mass Effect is officially coming to the small screen. Variety has reported a Mass Effect TV series is in development at Amazon MGM Studios. This comes after years of silence since 2021 reports that Amazon was in discussion to develop a show based on Bioware’s sci-fi series.
Daniel Casey will write and executive producer. His previous credits include Fast & Furious 9 and rewrites on 10 Cloverfield Lane. No word yet on if the TV series will directly adapt the original trilogy of games or tell a story outside of Commander Shepard’s time and viewpoint. Amazon is known for several critically acclaimed adaptations on Amazon Prime, notably this year’s Fallout show.
While Bioware may have called N7 day a “little quieter” in an official statement, news that a Mass Effect TV is moving forward in development is some of the best news that we could have gotten, especially after Bioware had focused on completing Dragon Age: The Veilgaurd. With The Veilguard out, Bioware’s “full attention has now shifted entirely to the next Mass Effect,” according to a Rolling Stone feature.
The other news from N7 day has been fun, although not earth-shattering. The Veilguard‘s first patch added an N7-inspired armor for Rook to wear. In a fun crossover, Hello Games is offering players a chance to add the Normandy to their collection in No Man’s Sky. “Today, and for the next two weeks, as a love-letter from one science fiction game to another, we are giving everyone another chance to encounter the Normandy in an overhauled version of the original mission [from 2021] and add it to their collection,” Hello Games said. You can check out a trailer for the limited-time event below.
Dark Horse released a badass John Shepard statue to celebrate this year’s N7 day. Only 1,000 are being made, so grab yours quickly if you want it before they’re gone. And finally, the official Bioware Gear store has added new merch for fans to pre-order, including a $500 trench coat.
