Man who rammed DEA vehicle during N.J. drug bust sentenced to federal prison

A New York City man who backed into a Drug Enforcement Administration vehicle in Elizabeth while trying to elude law enforcement after a botched drug deal has been sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison.

Miguel Nuñez, 50, of the Bronx, was sentenced to five years, 10 months as well as four years of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey said Wednesday.

Nuñez and Jesus Higuera-Parra drove from New York to Elizabeth on March 24, 2021, to sell fentanyl, officials said. When they arrived to meet the buyer, DEA agents were also there. Nunez put his car in reverse and struck the DEA vehicle in an attempt to flee.

He pleaded guilty in September to possessing 40 grams of fentanyl with intent to distribute and resisting officers with a deadly or dangerous weapon.

Higuera-Parra, 28, of Ontario, California, previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute and is awaiting sentencing.
